KHAIRUL CHARTED FASTEST AT PRACTICE

Khairul Idham Pawi of BOON SIEW HONDA RACING TEAM clocked in fastest in the practice session of the Malaysia Superbike Championship for the MSBK600 class. Khairul took a stride aboard the Honda CBR600RR among some of the best names in the country during the practice session and breezed in the fastest at 2’10:642s. In the last season, Khairul took the fourth spot overall in the category with a total of 72 points. Commenting on the session, Khairul said, “For the first practice session, we were not able to make it due to the rain. We were only able to get on with practice two when the weather was better. The setup for this race is different from the ones that we have ridden in Asia in terms of suspension and standards. However, I am happy with my lap time and I will do my best during the race.” Coming in second fastest for the session was his teammate Azroy Hakeem Anuar who logged in at 2’10:975s. At the third fastest spot, it was Md Ibrahim Norrodin of SIC RACING TEAM at 2’11:348s.   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. Chat with us

IBRAHIM SET TO MAKE WAVES ONCE AGAIN

Muhammad Ibrahim Bin Mohd Norrodin of SIC Racing will be making waves once again in the MSB600 class at the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) Season 6, the season opener which will be held between 30th -31st July 2022 at the Sepang International Circuit. Last season, Ibrahim was on a roll in Round 2 when he swept the top spot on the podium for all three races, making a quick recovery from the shortcomings in Round 1. Ibrahim who rode aboard the Yamaha YZF-R6 recorded his fastest lap on the timesheet at 2’10:089s during Race 3 placing him at the second spot overall from the seventh spot in Round 1. Commenting on his performance last year, Ibrahim said, “It was a great moment for me and I was overjoyed with my hat-trick in the last round. It was a tough fight and I made too many mistakes in Round 1 which resulted in losing a bulk of the points. I had to make a comeback in Round 2 and although I scored maximum points in all races, I was only able to achieve P2 overall for the championship.” For the upcoming season, Ibrahim is more confident with the experiences he has gained last year and aspires to bag as many points as he could. “I will give my best shot to guard my points. The hope is to obtain the highest points and to take home the overall champion title. With that in mind, I have been training relentlessly. Bike training is crucial and I have been doing that a lot. I also work on my mental and physical endurance. This I hope would go a long way in helping me find my footing and achieve my goals.” For this season, Ibrahim will be taking his stride aboard the Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R.   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. IBRAHIM TAKES THE HATTRICK, SYARIFUDDIN TAKES THE TITLE

Ibrahim Norrodin was on song at Round 2 of the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Championship when he notched up a hattrick of wins in the MSBK 600. The SIC Racing team rider capped off a successful weekend with a strong finish in Race 3 that he won uncontested with a time of 21’56.275s. His brother Adam joined Ibrahim on the podium in second place while Mohd Helmi Azman took third. However, it was Ibrahim’s team mate Mohd Syarifuddin Azman who had the most to celebrate. Despite not winning a single race over the course of the two rounds in 2021, Syarifuddin’s play-it-safe strategy paid off when he took the title with 105 points. Syarifuddin finished on the podium in five out of six races. The only race where he was absent from the podium was the final race of the season. He crossed the finish line in fourth. Ibrahim’s hattrick pushed him up the championship table. Handicapped by his two crashes in Round 1, Ibrahim’s best position this season placed him second overall with 95 points. Boon Siew Honda Racing Team’s Mohd Helmi Azman ended the season in third with 89 points. MSBK 600 RACE 3 RESULTS Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin (Yamaha, SIC Racing), 21’56.275s Mohd Adam Norrodin (Kawasaki, SIC Racing), 21’57.478s Mohd Helmi Azman (Honda, Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 21’57.750s MSBK 600 STANDINGS AFTER RACE 3 Mohd Syarifuddin Azman (Kawasaki, SIC Racing), 105 pts Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin (Yamaha, SIC Racing), 95 pts Mohd Helmi Azman (Honda, Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 89 pts   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. SYARIFUDDIN AZMAN INCHES CLOSER TO THE MSBK 600 TITLE

A string of five consecutive podiums has placed Mohd Syarifuddin Azman in an unassailable position to lift the 2021 MSBK 600 title. At Round 2 of the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Championship, Syarifuddin came within 6 points of winning the title in Race 2. The battle in the MSBK 600 class began almost as soon as the race got flagged off. Adam Norrodin got off to the best start as he dove into the holeshot to take an early advantage. With a 6-bike leading group in hot pursuit, Adam ran wide at Turn 4 on Lap 4. This error cost Adam dearly as he loses all his position at the front. A lap later, disaster for championship contender Mohd Helmi Azman. Helmi lost control of the bike at Turn 15 and was flipped off his machine as he hit the gravel. This unfortunate incident almost ended his pursuit for the title. Back in front, Azroy Hakeem Anuar and Ibrahim Norrodin set the race pace. At the tail end of the 6-rider leading group, Khairul Idham Pawi showed up with a surprise as he swapped his Yamaha for a Honda CBR600RR. The battle dragged on right up to the final lap when Ibrahim snared the lead with his superior drive at the front straight. Azroy reacted almost immediately and narrowed the gap as the riders thundered down the back straight. Unfortunately for Azroy, the Honda rider ran wide again at the apex of Turn 15. This opened the opportunity for a SIC Racing 1-2 finish with Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin in first place with 21’57.215s and Mohd Syarifuddin Azman in second with 21’57.385s. 0.043 seconds behind, Azroy came home in third. Syarifuddin had been the most consistent rider in the MSBK 600 class to date. “My strategy during the race is to follow. I didn’t want to get involved at the front because they were really going for it. Instead, I preferred to control my pace and wait to take advantage of any unforced errors from the leading riders,” said Syarifuddin who is now leading by 92 points. Helmi Azman still has a mathematical chance when he managed to still finish 8th in Race 2. However, with a 19-point gap, Helmi will need nothing short of a miracle to recoup his position. MSBK 600 RACE 2 RESULTS Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin (Yamaha, SIC Racing), 21’57.215s Mohd Syarifuddin Azman (Kawasaki, SIC Racing), 21’57.385s Azroy Hakeem Anuar (Honda, Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 21’57.428s MSBK 600 STANDINGS AFTER RACE 2 Mohd Syarifuddin Azman (Kawasaki, SIC Racing), 92 pts Mohd Helmi Azman (Honda, Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 73 pts Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin (Yamaha, SIC Racing), 70 pts   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. CLEAN SWEEP BY SIC RACING IN MSBK 600

Team SIC Racing’s last-minute decision to add Adam Norrodin onto their MSBK 600 roster has obviously paid off. The inclusion of the highly experienced rider changed the dynamics of the race. In Race 1 of the MSBK 600 for Round 2, the team helmed by former GP rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin made a clean sweep of the MSBK 600 podium with Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin in first place, Mohd Adam Norrodin in second and Mohd Syarifuddin Azman in third. The MSBK 600 Race 1 was a 5-way battle that lasted the full 10 laps. The SIC Racing trio went head to head against Boon Siew Honda Racing Team’s Azroy Hakeem Anuar and Mohd Helmi Azman. It was one of the most intense MSBK 600 races in recent years. “I didn’t have the best of starts. In fact, I had to make up for a lot of ground as I almost lost touch with the leading group. But I kept my cool and I knew that I would be able to out-break most of these others riders and therein lies my advantage. I just wanted to win this race. As I overtook first Syarifuddin and then Adam, I no longer cared that they were my team-mates or my brother,” Ibrahim described the race. Behind the leading five, mechanical gremlins forced Khairul Idham Pawi out of the race after only a single lap. Nazirul Izzat and Moh dAkid Aziz continued to make improvements in P6 and P7. MSBK 600 RACE 1 RESULTS Ibrahim Norrodin (Yamaha, SIC Racing), 21’56.784s Adam Norrodin (Kawasaki, SIC Racing), 21’57.148s Mohd Syarifuddin Azman (Kawasaki, SIC Racing), 21’57.482s MSBK 600 CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS AFTER RACE 1, ROUND 2 Mohd Syarifuddin Azman (Kawasaki, SIC Racing), 72 pts Mohd Helmi Azman (Honda, Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 65 pts Khairul Idham Pawi (Yamaha, ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team), 51 pts   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. HELMI DISSATISFIED WITH FASTEST TIME IN MSBK 600 FREE PRACTICE

Mohd Helmi Azman of the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team came up tops after the first day of MSBK 600 Free Practice at Round 2 of the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Championships at the Sepang International Circuit. The Honda rider clocked 2’10.669s to take provisional pole ahead of the qualifying session on Saturday morning. However, Helmi expressed that he is far from satisfied with his race pace. “There is a lot more that I must improve on. We only have this one final round to make an impact. In particular, I feel that I take too long to get into rhythm. The result of that issue was apparent in Round 1 two weeks ago when I kept losing touch with the leading group at the start of the race,” said Helmi. “I was very unhappy with my results from Round 1. I can do better and I intend to do better in this finale,” Helmi concluded. The Boon Siew Honda Racing Team rider is currently in line for the 2021 MSBK 600 crown, trailing championship leader Mohd Syarifuddin Azman by only two points. The second quickest time of the day was posted by Azroy Hakeem Anuar, who checked in with 2’10.794s. Championship leader Syarifuddin was third fastest with 2’10.894s. AZROY AND IBRAHIM FINALLY MANAGES TO FINISH AN MSBK 600 RACE

It has been a drama-filled weekend in the MSBK 600 class at the season opener of the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Champikonship (MSBK). First the class was rocked by a spectacular comeback by former GP rider Khairul Idham Pawi, then came the surprise entry from Mohd Syarifuddin Azman. Finally, the entire race weekend had been characterized by the spectacular crashes of Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin and Azroy Hakeem Anuar in Race 1 and Race 2. The two rivals finally managed to finish a race in Race 3. The race started off gingerly, with most of the riders going easy in the mixed track conditions. The pace picked up from Lap 3 onwards with Ibrahim in the lead followed by Azroy and Sharifuddin. As the riders gained confidence, Mohd Helmi Azman joined the leading group on Lap 9, turning the final race of the weekend into a straight-out fight between the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team and SIC Racing. The relief among the team crew was palpable when Azroy finally crossed the finish line to grab his first 600cc victory of the season with 25’01.251s. “I am really grateful for this opportunity. It has been a while since I have been on board the 600cc bike. After two crashes, this win is a real morale booster for me,” said Azroy. Ibrahim Norrodin ended the race in second with 25’01.663s. Speaking from the podium, Ibrahim thanks and apologized to his team for the many crashes he suffered over the weekend. Mohd Syarifuddin Azman finished third with 25’01.773s. CAUTIOUS IN THE WET PAYS OFF FOR HELMI AZMAN

A heavy downpour brought out the red flag a lap into the start of the MSBK 600 Race 2. The race was shortened to a 6-lap stint, which set the stage for a battle of the rain masters. The grid re-assembled with only six riders. Yamaha Racing Team ASEAN duo were clearly absent. According to the team management, neither Nazirul Izzat Bahauddin nor Aiman Tahiruddin have had any experience racing the Yamaha YZF-R6 in the wet. As such, the team did not want to take the risk of injury. At the re-start, it was Azroy Hakeem Anuar who first threw down the gauntlet. The Boon Siew Honda Racing Team rider held the lead into the two opening laps with pole sitter Ibrahim Norrodin from SIC Racing trying hard to get past. The two riders, who had crashed out of Race 1 on Saturday, were determined to finish on the podium. Both Azroy and Ibrahim set a punishing pace despite the uncertain track conditions. Ibrahim had a big scare at the end of Lap 2 at Turn 15, but managed to salvage the situation. The SIC Racing rider immediately went on the attack. The pace was clearly too much on the rain-slicked tarmac. Half a lap later, both Ibrahim and Azroy simultaneously high-sided out of Turn 3. This would be the second crash of the weekend for the two rivals. Behind the dueling duo, it was the riders who opted for a more conservative ride who benefitted from the situation. Mohd Helmi Azman from Boon Siew Honda Racing Team picked up an easy first win of the season with 15’39.594s. SIC Racing’s Mohd Syarifuddin Azman was second across the line, followed by Race 1 winner, Khairul Idham Pawi in third. “Unlike Azroy and Ibrahim, I wasn’t able to get into groove when the race re-started. Somehow, the feeling wasn’t right. I was just happy to get past Khairul and Syarifuddin and would have been content to finish third,” said Helmi. “I didn’t see Azroy and Ibrahim crashing out. By the time I got to Turn 3, all I saw were the two bikes lying at the side of the track. From then on, it was just a matter of maintaining my pace and focus until the end of the 6-lap race,” said Helmi. SUPER KIP BACK IN STYLE

Round 1 of the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) turned out to be the perfect platform for former Malaysian GP rider Khairul Idham Pawi to get back into racing form. Starting the MSBK 600 race from second row behind front liners Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin, Azroy Hakeem Anuar and Mohd Helmi Azman, Khairul got off to a late start while the two 2020 model Honda CBR600RR set the initial race pace. The MSBK 600 race had been touted as a five-corner fight between Ibrahim, Azroy, Helmi, Khairul and Mohd Sharifuddin Azman. The rivalry between the front row were apparent from the start with both Ibrahim and Azroy scrabbling for the same racing line. While fighting for the same inch of tarmac on Lap 2, Ibrahim and Azroy touched. Both riders were unceremoniously dumped onto the gravel. This left the way open for Khairul Idham to slip into the lead. Cool and collected, Khairul dictated the race rhythm from the front of the group. “I had a really bad start because I’ve been away from the starting grid for almost a year. But I quickly noticed that Ibrahim and Azroy were making a lot of mistakes, so I decided to bide my time. For the first lap, I was content to follow. Once I got into the lead, I found that Helmi was also making a lot of unforced errors,” Khairul described. One of Helmi’s unforced error included a last-lap last-corner gamble when he tried to out-brake everyone to take the win. Unfortunately for Helmi from the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team, the plan backfired when he ran wide. Helmi’s mistake allowed Khairul Idham Pawi to race unencumbered to the finish line and complete his comeback race in winning style with 21’59.034s “It was a really good race and I enjoyed it very much,” he concluded. Mohd Syarifuddin Azman from SIC Racing trailed Khairul Idham to the finish line in second place. Helmi Azman had to concede in third with 21’59.430s.
