AZROY AND IBRAHIM FINALLY MANAGES TO FINISH AN MSBK 600 RACE
It has been a drama-filled weekend in the MSBK 600 class at the season opener of the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Champikonship (MSBK). First the class was rocked by a spectacular comeback by former GP rider Khairul Idham Pawi, then came the surprise entry from Mohd Syarifuddin Azman. Finally, the entire race weekend had been characterized by the spectacular crashes of Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin and Azroy Hakeem Anuar in Race 1 and Race 2.
The two rivals finally managed to finish a race in Race 3. The race started off gingerly, with most of the riders going easy in the mixed track conditions. The pace picked up from Lap 3 onwards with Ibrahim in the lead followed by Azroy and Sharifuddin.
As the riders gained confidence, Mohd Helmi Azman joined the leading group on Lap 9, turning the final race of the weekend into a straight-out fight between the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team and SIC Racing.
The relief among the team crew was palpable when Azroy finally crossed the finish line to grab his first 600cc victory of the season with 25’01.251s.
“I am really grateful for this opportunity. It has been a while since I have been on board the 600cc bike. After two crashes, this win is a real morale booster for me,” said Azroy.
Ibrahim Norrodin ended the race in second with 25’01.663s. Speaking from the podium, Ibrahim thanks and apologized to his team for the many crashes he suffered over the weekend.
Mohd Syarifuddin Azman finished third with 25’01.773s. Syarifuddin was the most successful and consistent rider of the weekend. The SIC Racing rider currently leads the MSBK 600 with 56 points after picking up a hattrick of podium finishes.
