WHERE’S EVERYONE? KASMA WINS DEBUT 1000cc RACE… EFFORTLESSLY

Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin enjoyed a dream debut in the litre class when he effortlessly walked away with the race win in Race 1 of the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) season opener at the Sepang International Circuit. Starting the race from pole position, Kasma enjoyed a lights-to-flag victory unencumbered by challenges from any other rider. The young debutant, equipped with the Yamaha YZF-R1M, was super smooth throughout the 10-lap race which he won with a time of 21’23.783s. A whopping 9.9 seconds behind Kasma, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman visibly struggled with an uncooperative bike. Azlan was forced to settle for second with 21’32.698s, followed by MME Racing Team Malaysia’s Ahmad Daniel Haiqal in third. “While it is thrilling to win my debut race in the 1000cc class, I am looking forward to more battles in the coming races. I learn nothing if I race alone and just keep to my race pace. So I’m hoping Azlan and his team will have resolved his suspension issues by Race 2 and I’m also looking forward to Zaqhwan coming back to join the grid for Race 2. At least then, I’ll have someone to play with,” said Kasma. MSBK 1000 – RACE 1 RESULTS Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin (Yamaha, Yamaha Racing Team ASEAN), 21’23.783s Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (BMW, BMW S1000RR 2020), 21’32.698s Ahmad Daniel Haiqal (BMW S1000RR 2020), 22’00.313s   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. SUPER KIP BACK IN STYLE

Round 1 of the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) turned out to be the perfect platform for former Malaysian GP rider Khairul Idham Pawi to get back into racing form. Starting the MSBK 600 race from second row behind front liners Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin, Azroy Hakeem Anuar and Mohd Helmi Azman, Khairul got off to a late start while the two 2020 model Honda CBR600RR set the initial race pace. The MSBK 600 race had been touted as a five-corner fight between Ibrahim, Azroy, Helmi, Khairul and Mohd Sharifuddin Azman. The rivalry between the front row were apparent from the start with both Ibrahim and Azroy scrabbling for the same racing line. While fighting for the same inch of tarmac on Lap 2, Ibrahim and Azroy touched. Both riders were unceremoniously dumped onto the gravel. This left the way open for Khairul Idham to slip into the lead. Cool and collected, Khairul dictated the race rhythm from the front of the group. “I had a really bad start because I’ve been away from the starting grid for almost a year. But I quickly noticed that Ibrahim and Azroy were making a lot of mistakes, so I decided to bide my time. For the first lap, I was content to follow. Once I got into the lead, I found that Helmi was also making a lot of unforced errors,” Khairul described. One of Helmi’s unforced error included a last-lap last-corner gamble when he tried to out-brake everyone to take the win. Unfortunately for Helmi from the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team, the plan backfired when he ran wide. Helmi’s mistake allowed Khairul Idham Pawi to race unencumbered to the finish line and complete his comeback race in winning style with 21’59.034s “It was a really good race and I enjoyed it very much,” he concluded. Mohd Syarifuddin Azman from SIC Racing trailed Khairul Idham to the finish line in second place. Helmi Azman had to concede in third with 21’59.430s. MSBK 600 – RACE 1 RESULTS Khairul Idham Pawi (Yamaha, ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team), 21’59.034s Mohd Syarifuddin Azman (Kawasaki, SIC Racing), 21’59.383s Mohd Helmi Azman (Honda, Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 21’59.430s   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. IZAM IKMAL: FROM BACK OF THE GRID TO RACE WIN!

Mohd Izam Ikmal turned the disappointment of starting from the back of the grid (following a disqualification post-qualifying) into a remarkable comeback. But a rocket start was all the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team rider needed to get himself back into the game. By the time the grid flagged off and swooped into Turn 1, Izam had already made it to P5. Within a lap, he joined Mohd Danial Syahmi and Mohd Shafiq Rasol in the leading pack. The battle royale between the three top riders went all the way to the finish line with Danial Syahmi and Izam Ikmal consistently swapping leads. A last corner move by Izam at the final lap secured him the first win of the season with 20’09.226s. “While I was disappointed that I had to start from the back, there was nothing I could do except plan to overtake every rider until I get to the leaders. I am really pleased with how things have turned out,” said Izam. While Izam’s Honda CBR250RR took top honours, Mohd Danial Syahmi’s Kawasaki Ninja 250 finished second with 20’09.294s while Mohd Shafiq Rasol from the ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team piloted his Yamaha YZF-R25 to third place. Meanwhile, Mohd Fauzi Hasan and Daing Jamilus Herianto dominated the proceedings in the MSBK B. MSBK 250 – RACE 1 RESULTS Mohd Izam Ikmal (Honda, Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 20’09.226s Mohd Danial Syahmi (Kawasaki, SIC Racing), 20’09.294s Mohd Shafiq Rasol (Yamaha, ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team) 20’09.382s   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. KASMA TAKES TO 1000cc LIKE A DUCK TO WATER

Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin from the Yamaha Racing Team ASEAN looks to have taken to 1000cc racing like a duck to water. Racing in his maiden MSBK 1000 class in the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Championship, Kasma’s performance to date has been particularly impressive, especially when he secured the right to park his bike on pole position with a quickest lap of 2’07.881s. Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi was noticeably absent from the grid. A prior engagement to film a launch video for Honda meant that Zaqhwan had had to skip the qualifying and Race 1. Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman clocked second fastest with 2’08.423s while MME Racing Team Malaysia’s Ahmad Danial Haiqal grabbed the last spot on the front row with 2’08.529s. Mohd Ramdan Rosli, Azlan’s TKKR team mate, was fourth quickest in the session followed by Nik Hadi Nik Mahmood in fifth with 2’16.112s. Nik’s entry was particularly note-worthy. He is the first Malaysian rider to race the Ducati Panigale V4R.   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. Chat with us.

IBRAHIM NORRODIN STILL THE MAN TO BEAT IN MSBK 600

SIC Racing’s Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Norrodin has set himself up as the man to beat in the MSBK 600 class. After clocking quickest in the free practice with 2’10.258, Ibrahim bettered his laptime during the MSBK 600 qualifier to clinch pole position with 2’09.900s. Ibrahim was the only MSBK 600 rider to lap within 2’09s. “We had a long qualifying session. So everyone had plenty of time to clock up mileage on the track. Most of our team’s qualifying strategy centred around ensuring that I could get a clear piece of track to myself. We knew that a lot of the other riders would be targeting to slipstream. I’m very pleased with how things turned out and I’m looking forward to some podium finishes this weekend,” said Ibrahim. Boon Siew Honda Racing Team duo Mohd Helmi Azman and Azroy Hakeem Anuar will join Ibrahim on front row with their brand new 2020 model Honda CBR600RR. Helmi clocked second fastest with 2’10.400s while Azroy was third fastest with 2’10.544s. Meanwhile, comeback kid Khairul Idham Pawi will start the races from the second row. Khairul clocked fourth fastest with 2’11.028s. Mohd Syarifuddin Azman rounded up the top five with 2’11.139s.   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. Chat with us.

FASTEST RIDER IZAM TO START FROM THE BACK OF THE GRID; DANIAL SYAHMI TAKES OVER POLE POSITION

Boon Siew Honda Racing Team’s Mohd Izam Ikmal set a new MSBK 250 lap record during the qualifying session for Round 1 of the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Championship. After clocking fastest in the free practice with 2’28.590s, Izam bettered his time by more than a second when he secured his right to park on pole position with 2’27.141s. Unfortunately, a technical infringement during the post-qualifying scrutineering erased Izam’s new laptime and the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team rider will have to start the races from the back of the grid. SIC Racing’s Mohd Danial Syahmi A Shahril inherits the pole position with the second fastest time on the grid, 2’28.508s. With Danial Syahmi’s Kawasaki Ninja 250 on pole, Mohd Shafiq Rasol made it a mixed front row when he clocked third fastest 2’30.615s with his Yamaha YZF-R25. Danial Syahmi’s team mate Mohd Hakim Danish Ramli completed the front row on P3 with 2’32.562s.   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. Chat with us.

STOCK STANDARD BIKE NO HASSLE FOR ZAQHWAN

Racing astride a stock standard Honda CBR1000RR is no hassle for Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi. At Round 1 of the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) underway this weekend, the 26-year-old even clocked a new MSBK 1000 lap record during the first day of free practice with 2’07.317s. “I am riding a stock standard bike, direct from the factory. The only major difference is, of course, the suspension system. Creating a new laptime came as a complete surprise to me too!” Zaqhwan joked. Nevertheless, Zaqhwan revealed that he will not be taking part in Race 1 on Saturday. “Honda had made prior arrangement to film a launch video with me. Since there was no way to change the studio time, I have no choice but to absent myself from the grid tomorrow. I’ll be back for Race 2 and Race 3 on Sunday. But having missed the all-important qualifying session, this means that I will start both races from the back of the grid… on a stock standard bike.” Elsewhere, MSBK 1000 rookie Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin gave good account for himself in his maiden ride astride the Yamaha YZF-R1M. Kasma ended the day half a second adrift of Zaqhwan’s pace, second quickest in class with 2’07.742s. Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman clocked third fastest with 2’08.134s. The 2019 FIM Asian Superbike champion was having trouble getting back into the grove and crashed out in the closing minutes of the second free practice. MSBK 1000 COMBINED FREE PRACTICE RESULTS Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi (Honda, Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 2’07.317s Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin (Yamaha, Yamaha Racing Team ASEAN), 2’07.742s Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (BMW, ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team), 2’08.134s   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. IBRAHIM NORRODIN TOPS A STACKED 600cc GRID

In the run up to the 2021 season of the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK), the spotlight in the MSBK 600 class was taken up by a series of exciting news. First came the announcement that former GP rider Khairul Idham Pawi is coming out of retirement via the MSBK. Then a surprise entry from upcoming GP rider Mohd Syarifuddin Azman. Finally, the Honda camp revealed that the 2020 model Honda CBR600RR will be making its official race debut this weekend. Away from the spotlight, Ibrahim Norrodin proved on the first day of free practice that he is still the man to beat at the Sepang International Circuit. The SIC Racing rider topped both free practice sessions and ended the day with 2’10.258s. After a year off the bike, Ibrahim is only about half a second off his own 600cc lap record. “It’s been a year since we’ve had a chance to ride. After the MCO, we did have some training, but only at the go-kart track. This is the first time we have had the chance to ride the full track in Sepang. The track condition was rather bumpy today. My team and I had to push very hard to get ourselves back in gear,” said Ibrahim. The vaunted Honda CBR600RR piloted by Azroy Hakeem Anuar and Mohd Helmi Azman placed second and third respectively, one second adrift of Ibrahim. Mohd Syarifuddin Azman clocked fourth fastest with 2’11.397s. Khairul Idham Pawi, returning to racing after a year-long hiatus, was fifth quickest with a competitive 2’11.674s. MSBK 600 COMBINED FREE PRACTICE RESULTS Ibrahim Norrodin (Yamaha, SIC Racing), 2’10.258s Azroy Hakeem Anuar (Honda, Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 2’11.266s Mohd Helmi Azman (Honda, Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 2’11.397s   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. IZAM TOPS MSBK 250 FREE PRACTICE

A year away from the Honda CBR250RR has done nothing to dampen Izam’s natural feel for his 250cc race bike. The Boon Siew Honda Racing Team rider was quickest to get in form, completing the first day of free practice at the top of the combined timesheets. Izam clocked 2’28.590s to take provisional pole. “We already had our base setting from 2020. Working with that, today was all about getting back into rhythm. I am satisfied with my results today, but we are targeting to bring our laptimes down even further during the qualifying.” Mohd Danial Syahmi from SIC Racing clocked the second fastest time on the grid – 2’29.007s – on his Kawasaki Ninja 250. ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team’s Mohd Shafiq Rasol logged third fastest with 2’30.850s on board his Yamaha YZF-R25.
