KASMA SETS NEW MSBK 1000 LAP RECORD

Yamaha Racing Team ASEAN’s Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin is intent on making up for his Race 3 disqualification at the previous leg

Yamaha Racing Team ASEAN’s Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin is intent on making up for his Race 3 disqualification at the previous leg of the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK). Eager to clinch the MSBK 1000 title in his superbike debut, Kasma set a new benchmark for the class when he topped the first day of practice with 2’07.237s.

Kasma erased the previous lap record set by Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi from the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team, which was clocked at 2’07.3417s.

The weekend opens with Kasma standing second overall in the MSBK 1000 standings, holding 45 points to Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman’s 58. If not for his disqualification from Race 3 in the previous round for dangerous riding, Kasma would have been leading the title chase, a significant feat for the rookie rider.

A strong finish in Round 2 will give Kasma a fighting chance to add the title of MSBK 1000 Champion to his resume.

“Our work is far from done. We’re still tweaking our setting. The target time for this weekend is to hit 2’06,” said Kasma briefly.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi from the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team who is breaking in his new Honda CBR1000 RRR SP this weekend posted the second fastest time of the day with 2’08.503s.  Championship leader Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman clocked third fastest with 2’08.550s.

In the MSBK 1000 B class, Suzuki riders Khoo Chee Yen and Joey Teo are intent on giving Round 1 Weekend Warrior Nik Hadi Nik Mahmood a run for his money. The three riders are posting the most competitive times with Khoo Chee Yen in the lead with 2’16.765s followed by Nik Hadi with 2’17.520s, and Teo Yew Joe third fastest of the trio with 2’18.526s.

The spectator grandstands are once again open to motorsports fans. Entry to the grandstand is free – but limited to adults aged 18 years and above who have completed their vaccination.
