DANIAL SYAHMI CLOSES THE GAP

The title gap between Mohd Izam Ikmal and Mohd Danial Syahmi has narrowed when Danial scored his first MSBK 250 win of the season

The title gap between Mohd Izam Ikmal and Mohd Danial Syahmi has narrowed when Danial scored his first MSBK 250 win of the season at Race 1, Round 2 of the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Championship.

Danial, who is racing under the SIC Racing livery this season, started the race from pole position. Within line of sight, his closest competitor would be Mohd Idlan Hakimi Raduan the from Boon Siew Honda Racing Team who qualified for third on the grid.

Championship leader Izam Ikmal slotted between the two riders, but with a ride-through penalty looming, Izam would not be a podium contender, at least for Race 1. While Izam served out his ride-through penalty, the battle for the top three podium slots fell in favour of Mohd Danial Syahmi who grabbed the chequered flag with a time of 20’06.188s.

Honda rider Idlan finished in second followed by SIC Racing’s Mohd Hakim Danish Ramli in third with 20’15.497s.

After serving out his ride-through penalty, Izam finished fourth in the race, picking up enough points to keep his title hopes alive. After Race 1, Izam leads by a 7-point margin ahead of Danial Syahmi.

Meanwhile,  Ahmad Farhan Iqwan representing MME Racing Team Malaysia aced the MSBK 250 B class with a time of 21’51.860s. Ahmad Farhan triumphed in an intense battle against Mohd Fauzi Hassan to gain an early advantage for the Round 2 Weekend Warrior title.
