AIMING FOR MORE POINTS

MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) will return to PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit (SIC) for its Round 3 this weekend. Md Adib Arsyad of SGH Credit is all geared up for yet another round of challenge in the Berjaya Sompo Yamaha Y16ZR Race MasterClass. Will another double-win be on the cards for Adib? The race category is not all that easy especially with thirty-two riders viciously aiming to beat the rest. The stiff competition is a test of competency and skills which almost all riders are well equipped with. However, the gateway to victory is about being tactical and bold in making the right moves from flag off to the chequered flag and in this case, Adib has definitely stood out strong when he barged towards victory twice since its first round this season at round 2. Could it be the advantage of being at the front row, second on the grid? It is hard to say although that has definitely rewarded him with the fighting spirit to retain his momentum. But, taking into consideration the nature of the race category which is competitive throughout the laps, Adib’s position on the grid may not be the only factor that awarded him with flying colours. More importantly, the ability to ward off the looming pressure from the contenders and retaining his position in a place where he could make one final push on the last turn are the challenges that need to be sorted during the race. Commenting on the race, Adib said, “My current challenge is facing riders who are generally much smaller in size as they are faster. As for now, I feel that my weight is my biggest limitation and I have to work towards shedding some of my weight so that I can continue to compete competitively. To me, everyone is considered my closest contender and everyone has the opportunity to win. They are all extremely good in their performances. But I will continue being calm and I will stay focused to ensure that I am not distracted by the challenges.” “One of the most important aspects in racing in this race category is to maintain my position at the front, especially in the Sepang circuit. The track is wide and being at the front gives us the advantage in terms of making the final cut on the last lap. Being in the right position plays a crucial role which is why I have to make sure that I am always in front from the start to the end. The machine in this race category is all the same however how we make the difference is the most important part. For this season, my aim is to collect as many points as possible and try for the overall champion title.”

SECOND WIN FOR ADIB

Round 2 MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship was held at PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit. Muhd Adib Arsyad Mohd Hisam of SGH CREDIT appeared as winner of Race 2 for the Berjaya Sompo YAMAHA Y16ZR Race MasterClass race category. In P2, was Muhd Adib Arsyad Mohd Hisam of SGH CREDIT followed by Azrul Affendi Hadi of CSL BROTHERS in P3. During the race, the riders’ position changed on each lap, with every rider battling for top spot made the potential winner for Race 2 unpredictable. Final lap watched more aggressive competition between riders. As Muhd Asyraf Daniel Mohd Zaki of XYH RACING PROJECT was approaching the finishing line, Adib sped his way up and overtook Asyraf to win the race at 17’44:575s. Adib stated, “During the race, my primary goal was simply to enjoy the experience. However, as the final lap approached, I saw an opportunity and didn’t want to let it slip away. I was initially worried that my strategy wouldn’t work, but it ultimately paid off in the last corner. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my team and everyone who has supported me. I will continue to put in my best effort for the upcoming rounds.” Asyraf placed second at 17’44:577s. Raiyan Khardanee Mohd Sanusi of MH RACING took third spot at 17’44:578s.

SYUKRAN WON RACE 2 AND QAYYUM, CHAMPION

Round 3 of the Malaysia Superbike Championship took place today at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit. Ahmad Syukran Aizat of Soon Chye celebrated the win today in Race 2 of the Berjaya Sompo YAMAHA Y16ZR Race MasterClass race category. It was a never-ending battle among the Y16ZR riders as they went on to stay ahead of the troop. While the riders went on to challenge each other, a number of riders seemed dominant throughout the race. However, it was not until the last lap where the real battle began and Shafiq Ezzariq who was seen moving from the front troop to the back emerged right ahead of the others before taking victory. In Race 2 earlier this afternoon, the race went on as usual with the huge troop of riders pushing their way through to take lead. Adie Putra, among them, stood out when he emerged at the lead position by the end of lap 1 with Qayyum and Shafiq Ezzariq close behind. The action-filled six laps race then continued with an exchange of positions among the riders but a handful of riders including Qayyum, Shafiq Ezzariq and Adia Putra maintained their positions well in the front troop. By the end of the 4th lap, Aliff and Syukran began making their moves into the front troop. On the final lap, the battle intensified between Emil and Syukran however the latter succeeded at the finish line first 17’38:749s. Commenting on the race, Syukran said, “First of all, thank you to the team. The race was quite competitive to be honest. The riders were all superb. In the beginning, I stayed at the back of the troop and managed my pace. It was not until towards the last lap that I tried to find ways to move to the front. I never expected to win the race but I am really glad that I made it this weekend.” Taking the second place was Emil Idzhar of Ezuan of Hiap Aik Racing Team at 17’38:767s. Md Adie Putra Sukarno of TwoWay made it third at 17’38:815s. Ahmad Qayyum Razak of New Chen Motorsports who took the 11th spot in Race 2 concluded the season as the overall Champion. Commenting on the race, Qayyum said, “This is the first time I became a champion. This goes to my late grandmother and my family. Thank you also to the team and for the opportunity given. The race was very competitive even though I took lead of the troop many times. I tried my best but I think luck was just not on my side this weekend. Even yesterday, I could not make it. But I will learn from my mistakes and I hope to do better next season. I will be with a new team next season and I am sure that it would be an entirely new experience.”   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. Chat with us

SHAFIQ WORKED HIS MOVES

Round 3 of the Malaysia Superbike Championship took place today at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit. Md Shafiq Ezzariq of Welly Racing triumphed today in Race 1 of the Berjaya Sompo YAMAHA Y16ZR Race MasterClass race category. During the qualifying session this morning, Qayyum of New Chen Motorsports was once again in full form as he went on with great composure to make it fastest with his best lap time at 2’48:290s. At second fastest was Syukran Aizat of Soon Chye with his best lap time at 2’50:048s. Arash Tsunami of XL Motor made it third fastest with his best lap time at 2’50:052s. During the race earlier, all riders were in full form as they went on to make the most of it. However, striking among the troop was Adam Haikal who took lead for a moment at turn one before Qayyum found a way ahead of him. By the end of lap 1 though, Arash Tsunami was seen taking lead momentarily before the troop swamped in on him. The 6-lap battle was never a bore as riders of various competency and calibre fought in the exchange of positions. With another three laps to go, Qayyum and Shafiq Ezzariq emerged among the frontliners. It was not an easy feat with the Y16ZR machine and the simple fact that all riders are potential winners in this race category. But, one rider who has proven his abilities this time around was Shafiq Ezzariq who squeezed his way towards victory at 17’39:732s. Commenting on the race, Shafiq Ezzariq said, “First of all, I am thankful to have won today. During the race earlier, I wanted to enjoy the race and not pressure myself too much. It was only towards the end of the race that I tried to maintain my position among the top five riders. On the last lap, I found an opportunity to strike and I took advantage of it. I am really happy for the win today.” Taking the second spot on the podium was Md Aliff Daniel of Hock Liong Motor Racing at 17’39:765s. At third was Ahmad Syukran Aizat of Soon Chye clocking in at 17’39:792s.   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. Chat with us

There are many riders of various calibre, from CP125, Wira and One-Make therefore, it is hard to say how it would go for the weekend but of course, I will do my best because I want to take the title. During the FP session earlier, I noticed that there are some issues with the machine and of course, we will try and rectify it tomorrow. In FP2, it was difficult to identify the issue due to the rain so, during qualifying tomorrow, we will try to find out exactly what is wrong.
