AZRUL TRIUMPHS IN WET CONDITIONS

Race 1 of Round 3 MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship in the Berjaya Sompo YAMAHA Y16ZR Race Masterclass category, Azrul Affendi Hadi from PJ WONG MOTOR emerged victorious amid challenging wet conditions at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit.
The race commenced with rain, setting a cautious tone as Muhd Akid Mohd Shah Khearul Nisiam of TAKONG took the lead, closely followed by Ahmad Iqram Danish Ahmad Ghazali of SCM Factory Racing Team. Muhd Adib Arsyad Mohd Hisam of MH RACING quickly maneuvered into P2, showcasing the competitive spirit of the riders. By lap 2, the top three—Akid, Adib, and Muhd Afiq Mohd Hamdan of WELLY WORLD RACING TEAM—had established a solid lead, sitting at least three seconds ahead of the second group.
As the race progressed into lap 5, the riders adapted to the wet track, gradually increasing their speed and closing the gap on the front-runners. By the final lap, the leaderboard saw a shift, with Azrul taking P1, Akid in P2, and Ahmad Shakir Abdullah of SUPER RACING in P3, while Iqram and Afiq followed closely behind.
However, the drama unfolded in the final turn when both Akid and Shakir fell, allowing Azrul to maintain his lead and secure the victory at 18’57:495s. Iqram crossed the finish line in P2, and Adib rounding out the top three in P3.
Azrul said, “I’m grateful because my target today was to secure a podium finish. The track was quite tricky, being half dry and half wet. I focused on staying with my group and was surprised to find myself battling among the top three. I noticed they were slowing down a bit, so I maintained my speed. In the final moments, I concentrated on racing my best toward the finish line, and I didn’t expect to come out in first place.”
