Treacherous wet conditions set the tone for an action-packed Race 2 of the BERJAYA SOMPO YAMAHA R15M Race Elites category at Round 1 of the MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship 2026, held at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit. At lights out, Raja Abdurraqib Raja Norfatihah of BEN HUAT MOTOR made a strong start to lead the pack, with Adam Danial Abdul Fattah of BERJAYA MEGA and Ahmad Malek Ridha of LKT MOTOR closely in tow. The opening laps saw tight battles across the field, but the wet surface quickly began to take its toll. Drama struck on Lap 2 when Muhd Ikram Dani of TME MOTOR lost control after running onto the curb, triggering a series of incidents that also saw Mohd Arrfan Ashraf of KEAT SENG MOTOR and Muhd Ali Imran Mohd Dzul Hijri of CHJ MOTORS crash out. The high attrition rate highlighted just how demanding the conditions were. By Lap 3, Adam Danial had taken control of the race, demonstrating remarkable composure in the slippery conditions. Behind him, Shahuzzaifie Adli Shafendi of FASROI M SB emerged as a serious contender, setting the fastest lap of the race at 3’18.292s and storming into second place. The battle intensified with riders like Che Muhammad Daniel Syazwan of SENG HOE MOTOR of and Adam Hariz Hafiz of K SENG MOTOR pushing into the top positions. Heading into Lap 4, Adam maintained his lead under mounting pressure from Shahuzzaifie, while Md Akif Qayyum Rosefendy of TKC RACING climbed into podium contention. Raja, who had led the early stages, began to slip back as the race entered its decisive phase. The final lap delivered a dramatic twist. As the leading group fought for position, Raja’s race ended in heartbreak with a crash at Turn 15, reshaping the podium fight in the closing moments. At the chequered flag, Adam Danial held his nerve to secure a hard-earned victory in 16’40.786s, fending off Shahuzzaifie by just 0.068s in one of the closest finishes of the weekend. Akif completed the podium with a strong ride to third. Reflecting on his performance, Adam said, “When it comes to wet race, it’s no longer just about speed, but how smart you race. I saw riders falling throughout the race, so I had to be extra careful because I wanted to finish. I guess I did well today, and the victory is mine.” TOP 5 FASTEST – RACE 2 1. Round 4 of the AEON CREDIT MAM MALAYSIA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP will be held at Sepang International Circuit this weekend. Can Asyaff Zaquan make a grand finish and bag the championship title in the BERJAYA SOMPO YAMAHA R15M RACE ELITES? With a total of 49 points in hand, Asyaff currently takes lead on the scoreboard with a 12 and 13-point difference from his closest contenders Ahmad Iqram Danish and Md Aqil Danial respectively. While Asyaff may have the advantage of taking lead, both the rivals have showcased their competitive side in the previous round with the latter taking a win and the former a podium-finish in Race 2 where Asyaff concluded fourth. Considering the close rivalry between the trio, it may not be as easy for Asyaff who has to keep up with the game-plan – being a champion. Asyaff may not have made a cut on the podium just yet throughout the season however being the chart-topper may just be the boost he needs to accelerate further. The question is, can Asyaff overcome the challenges of his rivals, the complexities of the circuit ground and the dexterity of his rivals to claim the big win at the season opener? Commenting on the race, Asyaff said, “I will try my best to finish second on the podium and also maintain my position. It is not going to be easy but I will try my best. The circuit ground is difficult to tackle, more so in a race category that is highly competitive. But I like it because it has a technical corner that is challenging and also a hilly area. The contenders are all very close, which makes the outcome quite unpredictable. I will do my best in both races and hopefully, I can keep up with a consistent pace and momentum throughout the race.” “My current contenders are both very strong and I know that they will inject as much pressure as they can to keep the competition stiff. Riding aboard the R15M machine is similar to riding the underbone machine in terms of competitiveness. But of course, this machine has a tank which means, riding techniques have to suit the body of the machine. For now, I am quite comfortable riding the machine but of course, there is so much more to learn and improve. I have to strategize from the very beginning till the end to ensure that I stay among the front troop.” In terms of preparation, Asyaff said, “I have been doing a lot of training aboard the machine and I have also been building up on my physique, clocking in gym time persistently for the coming round. So, right now, I just hope that apart from doing well and having a perfect machine condition, I will also have luck on my side. For next season, I have no plans as yet but I am hoping that I could participate in MSBK once again.”
Race 2 of Round 3 in the 2025 AEON CREDIT MAM MALAYSIA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP delivered a nail-biting finale in the Berjaya Sompo YAMAHA R15M Race Elites, as Muhammad Aqil Danial Nasrul of TME RACING stormed to victory at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit. From the very start, the contest was unpredictable. Shahzureen Que Absyar of SHH PENANG TEAM surged to the front, but the lead kept changing hands lap after lap. By Lap 2, Muhd Afiq Mohd Hamdan of HENN BIKERS RACING snatched the top spot, with Muhd Akid Mohd Shah Khearul Nisiam of SINGDECA DYNAMIC right on his tail. The intensity climbed on Lap 3 when Asyraff Zaquan Zainal Raif of BLH 46 RACING moved ahead, while Muhd Fareeq Mohd Faizal of WELLY ASSORTED RAWANG RACING TEAM clocked the fastest lap of the stage at 2’55.412s to put himself into second. No rider could maintain control for long. On Lap 5, Muhd Farhan Naqib Mohd of TAYCON MOTOR lit up the circuit with an even quicker 2’55.194s, briefly leading the group with Fareeq close behind. As the final lap approached, the race transformed into a four-way shootout. Aqil, showing nerves of steel, led the charge, with Naqib and Fareeq piling on the pressure. But Aqil held his ground to cross the finishing line first at 20’39.681s, edging out Ahmad Iqram Danish Ahmad Ghazali of SOON CHONG RACING TEAM by just 0.023 seconds. Mohd Shazrilee Pattelee of TKC RACING completed the podium, only 0.057 seconds adrift. Aqil said, “The race was really intense. I started all the way from 25th on the grid and had to find my rhythm coming from the back to fight my way forward. Alhamdulillah, I managed to finish in first place today.” SIC AND TWMR WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO AEON CREDIT (M) BERHAD FOR THE SUPPORT RENDERED THIS WEEKEND DURING AEON CREDIT MAM MALAYSIA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP.
