ALIF RULED FINAL LAP TO WIN

Round 2 of the 2025 AEON CREDIT MAM MALAYSIA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP took place today at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit. Muhd Alif Danial Md Asri of KAVIN MOTOR took the win in Race 1 of the Berjaya Sompo YAMAHA R15M Race Elites category. During the qualifying session this morning, Muhd Izam Ikmal Izamli of SENG HOE MOTOR RACING posted the fastest lap time at 2’47.718s. The second-fastest was Abdullah Qayyum Abd Razak of SOON CHYE MOTOR at 2’48.752s, followed by Muhd Izzat Zaidi Mohd Salehan of TAYCON MOTOR with a time of 2’49.238s. Izam led the group at the start of the race, followed by Qayyum and Izzat. Muhd Haziq Mohd Hamdan of TKC RACING was also aggressive, working hard to maintain his position in the front group. Izam later crashed and was visibly frustrated as he was forced to retire from the race. With each lap, rider positions changed rapidly. It seemed difficult for any single rider to lead the group or build a significant gap. On lap 5, Muhd Shafiq Ezzariq of SOON CHONG RACING TEAM made his way to the front and opened a small gap, but was soon overtaken by Qayyum and Izzat. After the final turn, Alif made a smart move to the front and sped past the finish line to claim victory with a time of 20’19.572s. Haziq secured second place at 20’19.733s, and Shafiq completed the podium in third with 20’19.742s. Alif said, “In today’s race, I focused on following the leader first and finding my race pace. Once I found it, I started pushing over the last two laps, catching up with the riders in the front group, one by one. I tried to exit early at the second last turn and stayed close until the final corner. Alhamdulillah, my strategy worked.” SIC AND TWMR WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO AEON CREDIT (M) BERHAD FOR THE SUPPORT RENDERED THIS WEEKEND DURING AEON CREDIT MAM MALAYSIA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP. MSBK ROUND 2 POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

The second and final round of the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK), originally scheduled for January 20 to 22 at the Sepang International Circuit, will be postponed until further notice. Quotes Azlan Shafriman Hanif, CEO, Sepang International Circuit “With the recent announcement made by the Prime Minister, Yang Amat Berhormat (YAB) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Bin Mohd Yassin yesterday, as the venue provider, we have no choice but to postpone the MSBK Round 2 to a later date. The safety and wellbeing of those involved with MSBK are our top priority. We hope that everyone adhere to the given SOPs to curb the spread of this pandemic.” Ron Hogg, Director, Two Wheels Motor Racing Sdn Bhd “With the Movement Control Order again in place from January 13 to 26, 2021, we have had no choice but to postpone the second and final round. At this juncture, we are not yet able to provide an alternative plan and we thank the teams and riders for their patience and understanding. Meanwhile, let’s all work together to bring the pandemic under control again.

MSBK ROUND 2 SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY 20 TO 22, 2021

December 23, 2020 Official Statement MSBK ROUND 2 SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY 20 TO 22, 2021 The second and final round of the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) will take place at the Sepang International Circuit this coming January 20 to 22, 2021. Quotes Azlan Shafriman Hanif, CEO, Sepang International Circuit “Great news for all of us in the motorsports industry. The riders are looking forward to compete in MSBK Round 2 that was originally scheduled in October but due to the enforcement of Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), it had to be postponed. We are blessed to see off the final round as this will be the closing event for motorsports in 2020. Hopefully 2021 will be a better year for our local motorsports scene.” Ron Hogg, Director, Two Wheels Motor Racing Sdn Bhd “Earlier this year, the unavoidable lockdowns forced us to cut the 2020 MSBK season from the original four rounds to two. When the second rounds of MCO came into effect, Round 2 had to be shelved. We are just glad for the chance to re-assemble the grid for the second and final round to take place, honouring our commitments to the teams and riders of the Malaysia Superbike Championships.”

MSBK ROUND 2 POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE WITH SELANGOR, KL AND PUTRAJAYA PLACED UNDER CMCO

With the enforcement of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya from October 14 to 27, Round 2 of the 2020 Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) will be postponed until further notice. The Sepang International Circuit and race promoters Two Wheels Motor Racing Sdn Bhd are working closely together to monitor the situation. Please follow the health SoP guidelines at all times. Let’s work together to overcome this so that racing can commence again. Stay safe!

ROUND 1 MSBK1000 REVIEW

BOON SIEW HONDA RACING TEAM The Boon Siew Honda Racing Team expanded its 2020 Malaysia Superbike Championship presence this year with Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi in the MSBK1000, Azroy Hakeem Anuar in the MSBK600 and Mohd Idlan Haqimi Raduan in the MSBK250 classes. Zaqhwan was absent from the team’s MSBK line-up in 2019, as he was away most of the year racing in the All Japan and the Asia Road Racing Championship. Zaqhwan’s racing plans were iced when the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic brought international travel to a grinding halt. The announcement that the 2020 Malaysia Superbike Championship would be re-started, albeit with a shortened season, was the perfect opportunity for the team and Zaqhwan to keep their superbikes race craft in shape. Months of slumber had not affected the team’s competitive edge as Zaqhwan topped the timesheets from the free practice sessions, the qualifier, and the three races in the season opener. The 21-year-old walked away from Round 1 with the maximum However, the team believes that there is still room for improvement. “We have not been racing for far too long and we think Zaqhwan’s condition is not yet at 100%. It’s not so much about winning the title as opposed to using this extra mileage for Zaqhwan to prepare for the resumption of the 2021 season in the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship,” said Boon Siew Honda Racing Team manager, Zulhelmi Ahmad.   HORIZON RACING TEAM Sponsorship complications delayed Mohd Farid Badrul Hisam’s confirmation for the 2020 MSBK1000 season. The defending champion’s entry was only announced at the eleventh hour. Consequently, the Horizon Racing Team engineers had their work cut out for them as they raced against the clock to prepare his 2012 BMW S1000 RR in time for the race weekend. The team’s problems were compounded by the change of tyre from Pirelli to Dunlop in the MSBK this season. The first day of practice was centred primarily around suspension setup to suit the new Dunlop slicks. Farid ended the day as the second quickest rider in the MSBK1000, but was a little more than two seconds off Zaqhwan Zaidi’s pace. 2’11.346s was Farid’s best time during the free practice sessions Farid clocked below 2’10 during the qualifier to start the weekend’s races from P2. He would then go on to finish second in all three races in Round 1. The 27-year-old’s laptimes improved steadily throughout the weekend, culminating with his best lap of the weekend, 2’08.890s clocked in Race 2. However, Farid has yet to improve on his personal best time, 2’08.304s, clocked in 2019 when he was fighting against yet another high-profile rider, Zulfahmi Khairuddin. “I think Farid did really well last weekend, but it was obvious that he will need a more competitive bike in order to race at Zaqhwan’s pace. We have three weeks to the next round and we are hoping to have our second bike prepared for him by then,” said Mohamad Yusaini, team principal of the Horizon Racing Team. Farid’s second bike is a 2015 model BMW S1000 RR.   MME RACING TEAM MALAYSIA The best performance of the weekend in the MSBK1000 class was delivered by 18-year-old Ahmad Daniel Haiqal from the MME Racing Team Malaysia. The young rider came into the MSBK from an unusual route. Daniel began his career as a motocross rider before making the jump straight into the litre class in 2019 when he won the MSBK1000 Superstock B title. Daniel had obviously been training hard even through the nine months of enforced inactivity. As Round 1 commenced, armed with a 2020 model BMW S1000 RR, the MME Racing Team rider was able to immediately better his personal best time at the Sepang International Circuit. Daniel’s best in 2019 was clocked at 2’13.486s. In 2020, his new baseline was 2’12.051s. His laptimes improved dramatically from one practice session to another until Race 3 when he finally achieved his personal best so far, 2’09.159s. “We tried lots of different setups this weekend. I virtually had a different bike from Race 1 to Race 2 and finally to Race 3. The bike felt really good in Race 3, but the front brake seemed to be malfunctioning. However, I was still determined to have a go at overtaking Farid Badrul, which was how I low-sided at Turn 1 on the last lap in the third race,” said Daniel. Nevertheless, the MME Racing Team Malaysia rider picked up three third place finishes from Round 1, placing him in a solid third overall in the MSBK1000 rankings.   TEAM HIAP AIK SUZUKI RACING Team Hiap Aik Suzuki Racing’s lead rider CY Khoo also displayed marked improvement over the course of the weekend. The team and riders clearly needed time to get a grip on the new Dunlop tyres. CY clocked his best time of the weekend, 2’15.942s, in Race 3. However, the determined rider has yet to better his personal best in 2019, a time of 2’14.475s clocked in Round 1. “Finally we get back to the track after a long break. My goal for Round 1 is to get my race rhythm back, and understand more about this new Dunlop tyre. Overall my team and I are quite happy with our results. We collected a lot of valuable data from the new tyres and we tried some different setup on the bike to suit the tyres,” said CY. “Thanks to organizers and team for a good event, putting us on a track in these difficult times. Hope everyone stays safe. See you in Round 2.”

ZAQHWAN STAMPS HIS AUTHORITY ON THE MALAYSIA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP

Boon Siew Honda Racing Team’s Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi was clearly in a class of his own as he stamped his authority in the MSBK1000 class of the 2020 Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK). In the absence of his peers such as Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, Zaqhwan raced virtually unchallenged to pocket all three wins from the season opener at the Sepang International Circuit last weekend. Quickest in the first day of practice, Zaqhwan took pole position on Day 2 and subsequently won the first race on Saturday. The 21-year-old rider kept his winning momentum through to Day 3 when he claimed the top spot in Race 2 with 21’34.639s and Race 3 with 21’35.569s. “I wouldn’t call it an easy win. I was racing against myself, challenging myself to go at ARRC (FIM Asia Road Racing Championship) pace throughout the weekend. The bike we are using here at the MSBK is drastically different from what we had in the ARRC last year. Yes, it’s the same model, but this version is very close to standard. In effect, it’s a training bike and I used the opportunity to challenge myself to stay as close to ARRC race pace as possible,” said Zaqhwan who now leads the 2020 MSBK1000 title hunt with the maximum 75 points. Zaqhwan’s presence, however, has brought an immediate impact for the rest of the field when Farid Badrul Hisam and rookie Mohd Daniel Haiqal showed visible improvement throughout the weekend. Both riders finished second and third respectively in all three races. Young Daniel Haiqal from the MME Racing Team Malaysia was especially impressive when he brought his laptime down to 2’09s for the first time over the course of the season opener. Team Hiap Aik Suzuki Racing’s lead rider CY Khoo finished fourth in all three races. Equally successful in the MSBK600 class was SIC Racing Team’s Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Norrodin. The closed borders had denied the 600cc class of many of its usual foreign riders. As a result, the 600cc class raced alongside the 1000 on the same grid. For Ibrahim, this presented a unique challenge to chase down a bigger cc bike. “We tried out different settings from Race 1 all the way up to Race 3. My target was to lap within the same second as the 1000cc bike ahead of me,” said Ibrahim whose efforts rewarded him with the triple-win. He pipped Azroy Hakeem Anuar to the win Race 2 by a mere 0.083 seconds and checked in to the top spot of the 600cc podium with 21’49.556s in Race 3. Boon Siew Honda Racing Team’s Mohd Idlan Hakimi Raduan, SIC Racing Team’s Mohd Danial Syahmi and Hi-Rev SCK Honda Racing Team’s Mohd Izam Ikmal shared top billings in the MSBK250 class when they picked up a win each over the weekend. Idlan drew first blood when he won Race 1 but lost out to Daniel Syahmi in Race 2. Izam Ikmal came back strong in Race 3 which he won with a time of 20’11.054s. While Idlan is the nominal MSBK250 championship leader after Round 1, the real show stealer was Danial Syahmi’s successful comeback. After 13 months in a hospital following his horrific injury in 2018, Danial’s achievements in Round 1 was something to be celebrated. “My injuries are completely healed and I am rapidly regaining my confidence,” said the 18-year-old who trails leader Idlan by only four points. Finally, seasoned campaigner Ahmad Fazrul Sham was on fire in the MSBK150 class when he finished second in Race 2 and picked up another victory in Race 3 with 15’39.778s. The Cardinals Racing Team rider is now leading the MSBK150 class by a 30 points and looks to be in good position to create history as the first MSBK150 champion. RACE 2 RESULTS (TOP THREE) MSBK1000 Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 21’34.639s Mohd Farid Badrul Hisam (BMW) (Horizon Racing Team), 21’48.525s Ahmad Daniel Haiqal (BMW) (MME Racing Team Malaysia), 21’51.641s MSBK600 Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Norrodin (Yamaha) (SIC Racing Team), 21’56.746s Azroy Hakeem Anuar (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 21’48.525ss Mohd Helmi Azman (Honda) (Hi-Rev SCK Honda Racing), 21’51.641s MSBK250 Mohd Danial Syahmi A Shahril (Kawasaki) (SIC Racing Team), 20’09.244s Mohd Idlan Hakimi Raduan (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 20’13.064s Mohd Izam Ikmal (Honda) (Hi-Rev SCK Honda Racing Team), 20’13.151s MSBK150 Mohd Izzat Zaidi Salehan (Yamaha) (JR Performance Wossner YYPang Racing Team), 15’55.392s Ahmad Fazrul Sham (Yamaha) (Cardinals Racing Team), 15’55.715ss Mohd Akid Aziz (Yamaha) (UMA Racing Yamaha Maju Motor Asia Team), 15’55.762s RACE 3 RESULTS (TOP THREE) MSBK1000 Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 21’35.569s Mohd Farid Badrul Hisam (BMW) (Horizon Racing Team), 21’46.165s Ahmad Daniel Haiqal (BMW) (MME Racing Team Malaysia), 22’14.920s MSBK600 Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Norrodin (Yamaha) (SIC Racing Team), 21’49.240s Azroy Hakeem Anuar (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 21’46.165s Mohd Helmi Azman (Honda) (Hi-Rev SCK Honda Racing), 22’14.920s MSBK250 Mohd Izam Ikmal (Honda) (Hi-Rev SCK Honda Racing Team), 20’11.054s Mohd Idlan Hakimi Raduan (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 20’11.481s Mohd Danial Syahmi A Shahril (Kawasaki) (SIC Racing Team), 20’11.552s MSBK150 Ahmad Fazrul Sham (Yamaha) (Cardinals Racing Team), 15’39.778s Mohd Haziq Mohd Fairues (Yamaha) (UMA Racing Yamaha Maju Motor Asia Team), 15’44.395s Mohd Akid Aziz (Yamaha) (UMA Racing Yamaha Maju Motor Asia Team), 15’44.417s STANDINGS MSBK1000 Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 75 pts Mohd Farid Badrul Hisam (BMW) (Horizon Racing Team), 60 pts Ahmad Daniel Haiqal (BMW) (MME Racing Team Malaysia), 48 pts MSBK600 Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Norrodin (Yamaha) (SIC Racing Team), 75 pts Azroy Hakeem Anuar (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 60 pts Mohd Helmi Azman (Honda) (Hi-Rev SCK Honda Racing), 48 pts MSBK250 Mohd Idlan Hakimi Raduan (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team), 65 pts Mohd Danial Syahmi A Shahril (Kawasaki) (SIC Racing Team), 61 pts Mohd Izam Ikmal (Honda) (Hi-Rev SCK Honda Racing Team), 57 pts MSBK150 Ahmad Fazrul Sham (Yamaha) (Cardinals Racing Team), 70 pts Mohd Haziq Mohd Fairues (Yamaha) (UMA…

2020 MSBK OPENER OFF TO A ROARING START WITH ZAQHWAN, IBRAHIM, IDLAN AND FAZRUL IN WINNING FORM

Months of inactivity had not blunted Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi’s ability to put up a commanding performance at the season opener of the 2020 Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK). The Boon Siew Honda Racing Team rider snared a lights-to-pole win from pole position in Race 1 of the MSBK1000 class. Zaqhwan earned the right to park his bike on the coveted pole position when he posted a blistering 2’07.610s in the qualifying session on Saturday morning. The 21-year-old Honda rider led the front row with Mohd Farid Badrul Hisam (Horizon Racing Team) and Ahmad Daniel Haiqal (MME Racing Team Malaysia). A quick start gave Zaqhwan the advantage as he dove into the holeshot and held the position for the first lap. By Lap 2, Zaqhwan had begun taking steps to distance himself from the rest of the group. An imperious 10-lap performance followed until he claimed the win with a time of 21’36.493s. “My team and I are very pleased to find our 2019 Honda CBR1000 RR still in winning condition. This is working out to be a great weekend for us, with plenty of mileage for me on the track,” said Zaqhwan. MSBK1000 defending champion Mohd Farid Badrul Hisam piloted his BMW S1000 RR to second place with 21’55.549s. Rookie rider Ahmad Daniel Haiqal finished fourth in the race but third in his class. Meanwhile, SIC Racing Team’s Mohd Ibrahim Norrodin gained the early advantage in the MSBK600 class when he finished in first place with 21’59.928s. Ibrahim forced Azroy Hakeem Anuar (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team) to concede in second place while Mohd Helmi Azman finished a distant third. The sophomore MSBK250 class delivered a stunning final lap battle between Mohd Idlan Hakimi Raduan (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team) against Mohd Danial Syahmi from the SIC Racing Team. Poleman Daniel Syahmi had the lead in the first half of the race, but found himself overtaken by Idlan on Lap 5. A close battle between the two upcoming young riders ensued but Idlan Hakimi held his advantage to cross the finish line in first place with 20’14.763s. Danial Syahmi settled for second with Izam Ikal from Hi-Rev SCK Honda Racing Team in third. The inaugural race for the new MSBK150 class finished with seasoned campaigner Ahmad Fazrul Sham in winning form. Fazrul (Cardinals Racing Team) brought down the chequered flag with a time of 15’47.583s, and celebrated a 1-3 achievement when team mate Mohd Iqbal Amri Abdul Malek crossed the line in third place. UMA Racing Yamaha Maju Motor Asia Team’s Mohd Haziq Mohd Fairues split the two Cardinals riders in second place.

ZAQHWAN TAKES IT EASY IN FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE

Boon Siew Honda Racing Team’s Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi is easing back into race-mode as he headlines the belated season opener of the 2020 Malaysia Superbike Championship at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend. The experienced Superbike rider laid down the benchmark for the MSBK1000 class with the quickest lap of 2’09.153s However, this is a far cry from his personal best at the 5.542km Sepang circuit, 2’06.023s. While Zaqhwan enjoyed his first day back on the track, the rest of the MSBK1000 field were primarily focused on suspension setup.   Here are some quotes from the riders after the first day of practice:   Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team) “Today, I’m just focused on getting back in sync with the bike. Even though I’ve not been racing, I have never stopped training. The stamina and power is still there. I just need to shake off the rust and settle down to enjoy my first race.” “We were not pushing for time today because the weather was too unpredictable. It was dry in the morning and then we had a heavy drizzle and cooler temperatures in the afternoon. It would have been foolhardy to risk pushing for lap records under these circumstances.” Mohd Farid Badrul Hisam (BMW) (Horizon Racing Team) “Suspension setup was top on our list today. The switch to Dunlop means we need brand new suspension strategy to retain our competitive edge this season. CY Khoo (Suzuki) (Team Hiap Aik Suzuki Racing) “We like that we have more compound options to choose from as this means we now have more ways to set up for the race. This is a good development, considering our changing Malaysian weather.” Joey Teoh (Suzuki) “I’ve enjoyed my first day back on the track so far. The leg’s holding up, although a little stiff. I’m looking forward to the rest of the weekend.”

AZROY-IBRAHIM RIVALRY BREWING UP IN MSBK600

A hint of rivalry is brewing up between Boon Siew Honda Racing Team’s Azroy Hakeem Anuar and SIC Racing Team’s Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Norrodin in the MSBK600 class. Both riders have set their sights on qualifying below the 2’10s mark. Azroy was the fastest in class with 2’10.889s followed by Ibrahim second with 2’11.336s.   Here are some quotes from the riders after the first day of practice:   Azroy Hakeem Anuar (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team) “It’s been too long since I’ve been on a 600cc machine. I needed some time to get in sync with the bike and change my riding style to suit. Nevertheless, I’m satisfied with my laptimes today. My best laptime in the ARRC was 2’09. I need to get below that.” Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Norrodin (Yamaha) (SIC Racing Team) “My target time was to lap below the 2’10s mark. Everything was going to plan until the rain started coming down in FP2. Looks like that will be my target for the qualifying session.”

IDLAN HAKIMI CONTINUES TO IMPRESS

Boon Siew Honda Racing Team’s young protégé, Mohd Idlan Hakimi Raduan continued to impress in the 250cc genre when he aced the first day of free practices in the season opener of the 2020 Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK). Idlan topped the MSBK250 free practice sessions with 2’29.337s. However, the most impressive rider of the day would be SIC Racing Team’s Mohd Danial Syahmi A Shahril. Danial, returning to racing after a long injury, ended the day as the second fastest rider with 2’30.160s. Hi-Rev SCK Honda Racing Team’s Mohd Izam Ikmal was the third fastest with 2’30.954s Here are some quotes from the riders after the first day of practice: Mohd Idlan Haqimi Raduan (Honda) (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team) “I’m happy with my results today but I think I still have a long way to go in the 250cc class. The last time I rode on the Honda CBR250 RR was in March this year during the ARRC. Since then, I’ve not had the opportunity to throw my leg over a full-frame bike. Today, my team told me to take things easy and just get the rhythm back.” Mohd Danial Syahmi A Shahril (Kawasaki) (SIC Racing Team) “Everyone in the paddock has been talking about getting back in rhythm. But among all of us, I think I’m the one who most critically needs to get into racing form. But it feels good to be back on a bike again and my condition is pretty good. I just need to regain my confidence level again. Towards that end, I’m working with the team to improve the handling of my bike so that it will be more comfortable for me.” Abdullah Qayyum Abd Razak (Kawasaki) (Horizon Racing Team) “Today was tough for us. During FP1, we were very focused on getting our rear suspension right. The rain in FP2 did not improve matters. So we will need to see how it goes during the qualifying tomorrow.” Daing Jamilus Herianto (Kawasaki) (Pakelo KBSHM PHR Racing Team) “Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the last time our team raced was in December last year. Naturally, we faced a number of technical issues today. Our target for this round? Top 10 would be good!”
