IZAM IKMAL: FROM BACK OF THE GRID TO RACE WIN!
Mohd Izam Ikmal turned the disappointment of starting from the back of the grid (following a disqualification post-qualifying) into a remarkable comeback.
But a rocket start was all the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team rider needed to get himself back into the game. By the time the grid flagged off and swooped into Turn 1, Izam had already made it to P5. Within a lap, he joined Mohd Danial Syahmi and Mohd Shafiq Rasol in the leading pack.
The battle royale between the three top riders went all the way to the finish line with Danial Syahmi and Izam Ikmal consistently swapping leads. A last corner move by Izam at the final lap secured him the first win of the season with 20’09.226s.
“While I was disappointed that I had to start from the back, there was nothing I could do except plan to overtake every rider until I get to the leaders. I am really pleased with how things have turned out,” said Izam.
While Izam’s Honda CBR250RR took top honours, Mohd Danial Syahmi’s Kawasaki Ninja 250 finished second with 20’09.294s while Mohd Shafiq Rasol from the ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team piloted his Yamaha YZF-R25 to third place.
Meanwhile, Mohd Fauzi Hasan and Daing Jamilus Herianto dominated the proceedings in the MSBK B.
