IRFAN, EXCELLENT AT SEPANG

Race 2, Round 2 of the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) went well today with no hiccups at the Sepang International Circuit. Md Irfan Haykal of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team was unbeatable as he went on to claim victory once again in the MSBK250 B race category.

In Race 1, Irfan was quick to take the lead position however, mid-race, Muzakkir who made an entry this season began injecting pressure. As the intensity mounted, Irfan and Muzakkir wrestled for the lead position. Nevertheless, Irfan was steady in his game as he went on to conquer the circuit. Muzakkir gave in while Farid Hakimi who maintained his position at P3 finished third.

Race 2 was brought down to 6-laps due to a crash that took place as soon as the race flagged off. When the race began once again, Farid Hakimi went on to take P1 with Irfan at P2 and Muzakkir at P3. However, before the race ended, Irfan overtook Farid for a moment before Farid took over once again at turn 1. The duo of the same team seemed to have a strategy in mind as they exchanged positions to keep their rivals at bay. Meanwhile, Geoffrey battled with Muzakkir for P3.

By mid-lap, Irfan took the lead and picked up speed. Farid Hakimi went on to watch his back. Muzakkir broke away from Geoffrey and went on to maintain that position all the way. Two more laps to go, Irfan was 1.642s away from Farid. Muzakkir was catching up with a 0.376s gap and at the final lap, Muzakkir took a slide from the inside into P2. As Irfan went towards victory at 14’54:334s, Muzakkir worked his way to complete the race second.

Commenting on the race, Irfan said, “It was a superb race today. I definitely had a great time, even more so with the hat-trick that I have made for myself. I would say there was great competition with my teammate as well as riders like Muzakkir. But, I am really happy to have been able to maintain my position so far. Thank you to my team members, family and friends for the great support given to me.”

Md Muzakkir Mohamed of Horizon Racing Team clocked in at 14’55:832s.

Farid Hakimi of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team marked third at 14’56:066s.
