AFIF HELD OFF LATE CHALLENGE

The 2025 AEON CREDIT MAM MALAYSIA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP kicked off Round 2 today at the iconic PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit with a thrilling Race 1 in the MSBK250 A category. In an exciting showdown, Ahmad Afif Amran of SUPERFAST JRT X RAPIDO clinched the win, securing a hard-fought victory. Afif’s impressive performance began in the qualifying session, where he clocked the fastest lap time of 2’24.969s, earning pole position. He was closely followed by his teammate, Md Akid Aziz, who secured second position with a time of 2’25.075s. Nguyen Huu Tri of HONDA RACING VIETNAM TEAM rounded out the top three with a time of 2’25.781s. As the lights went out for the race, Afif and Akid both made strong starts, immediately establishing their positions at the front. However, Irfan Ardiansyah of MAEZTRO NWN SCK HONDA RACING was quick to challenge, keeping pace in third place. The race was a nail-biting contest, with riders jostling for position over eight intense laps. After a strong start, Afif and Akid continued to battle at the front, with Irfan and Huu Tri not far behind. On the final lap, Irfan showed remarkable pace, overtaking Afif in an attempt to snatch the win. But Afif went all out and raced past the finishing line to win in 19’40.458s. Irfan finished second at 19’40.459s, and Akid finished third at 19’40.536s. However, Irfan was dropped by one position due to a track limit violation, which moved Akid up to second place, and Irfan was placed third. Afif said, “In today’s race, I really tried to maintain a high race pace, but I wasn’t able to, perhaps because the track was too hot. So, I tried to stick to my strategy and attack in the last two laps. I already knew that Irfan would try to overtake on the final lap, so I just accepted it. But perhaps my bike had a slight advantage in the straight sections towards the finish line, and I was able to overtake Irfan at the very last moment.” SIC AND TWMR WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO AEON CREDIT (M) BERHAD FOR THE SUPPORT RENDERED THIS WEEKEND DURING AEON CREDIT MAM MALAYSIA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP. I didn’t face any issues and was just focusing on getting my feel and rhythm back on the bike. This is my second race weekend in the 1000cc category, and there’s still a lot I need to learn about riding a 1000cc bike. I only went out for a few laps to gauge how I’m riding in the wet conditions, as I’m currently struggling a bit in the rain. So, if it rains tomorrow, I’ll know what areas need improvement. In Practice 2, the weather had dried up, which gave me a slight advantage to set a good lap time and work on maintaining consistency for tomorrow’s race. This also serves as preparation for the ARRC race in Japan next week. For tomorrow’s Qualifying, we’ll be changing the rear setup because I struggled with rear suspension grip during Practice 2. And in Practice 2, I struggled a bit at the beginning, but I worked with the team to adjust the suspension better, and I tried again on the last lap. Alhamdulillah, my lap time improved. However, it’s still not enough if we want to target a competitive race pace.
