AFIF SEIZED THE CONTROL
Race 2 of Round 3 in the 2025 AEON CREDIT MAM MALAYSIA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP saw the MSBK250 A class deliver another thrilling contest at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit, where Ahmad Afif Amran of SUPERFAST JRT X RAPIDO emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle.
From the race start, Afif wasted no time in charging to the front at the first corner, leaving behind his teammate Md Akid Aziz, who was locked in a close fight with Reynaidi Pradana of REY RACING SPEED and Sai Rahil Pillarisetty of TEAM RACR CASTROL POWER1 for the final podium spot.
Meanwhile, Irfan Ardiansyah of MAEZTRO NWN SCK HONDA RACING mounted a fierce challenge on Afif, with Akid soon joining the leading group. Adding more drama to the mix, Md Irfan Haykhal Amidi of HONDA RACING MALAYSIA, who had started way back from grid 25, stunned the field by clocking the fastest lap of the race at 2’24.887s to break into the leading pack in P5.
By Lap 7, Afif remained firmly in control, though Akid’s attempts to overtake Irfan were quickly shut down as the Indonesian rider defended his ground while still pushing to close in on the leader.
The decisive moment came on the final lap when Irfan Ardiansyah suffered a crash, opening the door for Akid to climb into second position. At the front, Afif executed his strategy flawlessly to claim victory in 19’35.739s, followed by Akid in 19’39.588s, while Irfan Haykhal capped off a sensational comeback with a podium finish in 19’42.451s, ahead of Reynaidi and Sai.
Afif commented, “Alhamdulillah, I’m grateful to have taken the top spot on the podium today. With yesterday’s unpredictable weather, we didn’t have much data for wet conditions during the race. We managed to gather a bit of data yesterday, but thankfully the weather was good today. At the start, I tried to push, but my tyres didn’t allow me to go all out as the grip felt very loose both front and rear. So, I decided to save my tyres first and only pushed hard in the last three laps. On the final lap, I went all out, and thankfully the strategy worked perfectly, I managed to win today’s race.”
