IRFAN CONFIDENT FOR RACE
Round 1 of The Malaysia Superbike Championship Season 2023 revved off today at the Sepang International Circuit. Irfan Haykal of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team logged in fastest in the practice sessions combined for the MSBK250 A race category.
Earlier this morning during practice session 1, Md Irfan Haykal Amidi of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team clocked in fastest at 2’27:632s followed by his teammate Md Farid Hakimi 2’30:737. At the third fastest was Louis Abelhard of 2’35:318s. In practice session 2 which was held in the afternoon, Irfan once again emerged fastest at 2’28:967s followed by Md Muzakkir Mohamed of Horizon Racing Team at 2’30:858s. Coming in third fastest was Farid Hakimi at 2’31:192s.
With that, the fastest for the day in the practice sessions combined was Irfan Haykal with his best time at 2’27:632s. Last season, Irfan took home the championship title with seven podiums including four wins. Irfan has definitely showcased confidence in the race category and has seemed to have mastered the circuit layout to his advantage.
Commenting on the session, Irfan said, “In FP1, I was able to maximise speed and achieve a better time however in FP2, it was a little difficult to manage the tires that have already been worn out. But today’s session was a good start. I managed to secure good timing. This season’s entry list may be a little challenging but, on my part, it is manageable and I hope to repeat my successes during the race tomorrow and on Sunday.”
At second fastest combined was teammate Farid Hakimi at 2’30:737s followed by Muzakkir at 2’30:858s.
