IT GETS BETTER AT SEPANG!

Round 1 of The Malaysia Superbike Championship is coming soon with a brand-new season this weekend. Waiting to make the most of the season are riders of the MSBK1000 A and MSBK1000 B, all geared up to heat up the grounds of the Sepang International Circuit. It was a momentous celebration for Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin of Yamaha Gen Blu Racing Team Asean last season who went on a winning streak, bagging five wins and two podium-finishes. He emulated his successes in 2022 and defended his championship with excellent showmanship before once again rising above the challenge to defeat the troop of super bikers with a total of 172 points that rewarded him “champion” once again. His closest contender back then, two years in a row was Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman of Horizon Racing Team who pushed himself beyond the limits to tackle his opponent nevertheless, Kasma who is known to be territorial did not budge, leaving Azlan with no choice but to settle at second spot overall. At the third spot overall was Azroy Hakeem Anuar of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team who in his debut season not only flaunted his moves after graduating from the MSBK600 race category but also made quite an impression with his performances. He was seen battling neck-to-neck with his opponents however, his absence in three races could only place him third. Commenting on the race, Azroy said, “The biggest challenge for me would be handling the 1000cc machine which requires more strength and physical endurance. While I have had quite the experience last season, I still find it challenging and I know that I need to do more to improve further. The Honda machine has always been a good one and I have always been confident with its performances. Of course, with strong opponents, I am able to get more knowledge and experience to navigate better. This season, we will be riding alongside big names from ARRC but I want to be the best among the best for sure. Furthermore, Sepang circuit is like home to me therefore, I am determined to give my best and make it big!” The MSBK1000 B saw the rise of Md Amir Izzat Rozali of Horizon Racing Team taking a strong stance with five wins throughout the season including a triple victory in Round 3. At second and third was Chen Hsuan Ming of Dream Team and Khoo Chee Yen of Mobilub Suzuki Racing Team. This season will see the inclusion of riders from Chinese Taipei and Singapore alongside existing and new Malaysian riders. Commenting on the season, Tee Wee Jin who has been in the scene for a number of years now said, “My challenge with this championship has always been about achieving better results and keeping up with the troop ahead of me. The MSBK is not new for me of course, the entry list has always been a challenging factor for me as most of them are professional riders who have soared to greater heights locally and internationally. For us and those who are from the satellite team, to compete with the factory team in MSBK is never an easy feat but I take all possibilities into account and am encouraged further to learn closely from these professional riders. My aim of course is to perform at 100% and to make a comeback like winning in the good old days. My machine is a GSXR1000 RR 2021 model prepared by James Racing Japan and currently, it is well equipped with new technology which I believe would help me perform better. Fingers crossed! Sepang has been a great track. I have been racing for many years now and still never got bored.”     Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. Chat with us

FIERY STRIDE COMING SOON!

The MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship is coming back this weekend at Sepang International Circuit. Waiting in anticipation to circle the laps once again are the riders of MSBK600 race category who are highly motivated, ready to inject pressure and driven to succeed. Md Helmi Azman of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team went all out last season to grab the bigger chunk of the pie when he bagged the podium spot in all races with four wins including a hat-trick before marking his territory in the race category as the champion. For Helmi, he knows the tricks and trades too well and although it was not an easy feat riding alongside teammate, Khairul Idham Pawi for the first two rounds and Md Hakim Danish of SIC Racing in the final round, but he rose above the challenge and completed the season with a total of 180 points. KIP took second overall with 90 points in hand. At third spot overall was Japanese rider, Soichiro Minamimoto of Yamaha Gen Blu Racing Team Asean who made quite an impression in his debut season with a total of 75 points. Commenting on the upcoming race, Helmi said, “For me, MSBK has always been about getting the mileage needed to do better as a professional rider. It opens up pathways of opportunities that are much-needed especially in enhancing our riding techniques and preparation for the next level. The MSBK platform is known for being the top superbike championship in Malaysia and as such holds quite a standard that potentially helps us in gauging our own benchmark and performances. For the upcoming race, I am aiming for the overall championship title but again, I have a feeling that defending my championship is not going to be an easy task especially with the season’s entry list. Definitely, I will go all out to do my best especially with my machine being in a good condition. My team has done a great job over time and they have also been finding ways to improve wherever possible so I am quite confident for the coming race. Sepang circuit is a fine circuit and of course, being a home-ground for me, I would not say it is going to be a smooth ride considering the many other Malaysian riders who will be coming in as well. But, let’s see how it goes this time around.” This season promises an even more exciting chapter especially with the inclusion of fresh faces alongside seasoned riders from the local and the wider Asian grounds. While the level of competitiveness has always been striking among the riders in the race category, it is presumed that this season’s battle will see an enhanced version of nip and tuck which will raise the benchmark of excellence even higher. Season 2024 will see the inclusion of countries such as Philippines and Thailand with the likes of McKinley Kyle Paz, Apiwath Wongthananon and Thanat Laoongplio, who are all participants in the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship taking part in the stride. Commenting on the championship, Apiwath said, “This would be my first-time racing in the MSBK championship and I am quite excited to get some exposure from the riding experience. The main reason for participating is definitely while having the feel of riding in another championship, it is also to expand my mileage further for the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship. This would be a suitable ground and championship to practice before ARRC comes to Malaysia. For sure, it would give me some valuable insights on the circuit as well as the techniques needed to be more accurate in my calculation of risk taking. To me, Sepang has been a rather difficult ground and I know for sure that the local riders have greater advantage but I will do my best though. I will utilise my experiences and strengths to maximise my performances. My goal in every championship is to be the champion so, I will go all out to do whatever in my capacity to be the best.”

COMPETITIVE STRIDE AWAITS!

The Malaysia Superbike Championship will once again hit Sepang International Circuit this weekend. Riders of the MSBK250 A and MSBK250 B are counting the days in anticipation of yet another season of thrill and rush of adrenaline, prepared to either break it or make it. Last season, we saw the rise of 2022 defending champion, Md Irfan Haykal of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team who went on to raise the benchmark in the MSBK250A race category, sweeping five winning titles out of six races in the 3-round season. He defended his title with excellent showmanship before bagging the rewarding championship title once again. His team mate Md Farid Hakimi who trailed closely behind throughout the season landed himself at the second spot overall. At the third spot overall was Geoffrey Reviven Emmanuel of Gusto Racing Team who after a strenuous stride alongside Malaysian duo, took one win in the final race. Commenting on the upcoming race, Irfan said, “This season seems like it is going to be a highly competitive one. Looking at the entry list, I am quite sure that it would be tough to defend my championship title but I will utilise my experiences from the previous years and from other championships to find the best position in the race category. I also learnt quite a lot from the experiences of other riders and I usually evaluate it further to see if I can emulate it in my own riding techniques.” “My goal is to continue enhancing my performances and work on my limitations so that I can continue with the momentum of winning. As for the machine, so far, I think it is in excellent condition. The team has been working hard to ensure optimised performance. I will of course do my best to understand the machine that I get. The Sepang circuit is a long and wide one and while it can be easy, it can also be challenging because it opens up opportunities for other riders to strike. I love Sepang circuit and frankly, I am looking forward to the ride once again.” In the MSBK250 B race category, Md Izrul Huzaimi returned to the scene for a full-season in 2023 after gaining an impressive achievement in the final round of season 2022 with a double-shot on the podium. Striking in his pursuit to be the best, he went on to deliver excellence in his performances with three wins for the season, landing himself as the overall champion for the race category. Taking the second spot overall was Rakshith Dave of CRA Motorsports India who also took three wins for the season but short 4-points for a grand finish. Taking third was Ke Huan Ni who completed the season with 62 points in hand. In the coming season, there will be new entries from Indonesia, Singapore and India with riders of great calibre and sea of knowledge including one female entry from Malaysia. The MSBK250 A and MSBK250 B race category foresees a more competitive stride that is sure to keep the track heated for the weekend.   Catch up latest news at malaysiasbk.com. Chat with us
