A DISPLAY OF INCREASING MATURITY FROM RACE 2 WINNER, DANIAL SYAHMI
As the 2021 season of the Malaysia Superbike Championship unfolds over two rounds and six races, the one thing that has struck the MSBK paddock is the increasing maturity displayed by SIC Racing rider Mohd Danial Syahmi.
The young rider who has bounced back strong after a potentially career-ending injury in 2018, has proven that he has lost none of his drive and determination.
At the season finale of the 2021 season, Danial started Race 2 from pole position. The 8-lap race was a master class in team play as SIC Racing duo Danial and Mohd Hakim Danish went head to head against Boon Siew Honda Racing Team’s Mohd Izam Ikmal and Mohd Idlan Hakimi.
There was more than just the trophy on the line for the four riders. Danial needed a strong finish to stay within title contention while Izam desperately needed to get back onto the podium to make up for his ride-through penalty in Race 1.
As the pressure mounted, it was Mohd Hakim Danish who pulled a rocket start to lead into the holeshot. But there was no getting away from the top four riders of the class. The quartet were wheel-to-wheel from start to finish.
Despite individual attempts at breaking away, everyone were still jumbled together on Lap 7. Danial managed to pull a lead at the start of the final lap, but the straight line speed of the Honda CBR250RR brought Izam Ikmal right back on his tail at the back straight.
A final sprint to the finish line saw Danial pipping Izam to the chequered flag by a mere 0.023 seconds. Danial scored his second consecutive win of the weekend with 20’06.673s. Izam Ikmal had to settle for second with 20’06.696s. Mohd Idlan Hakimi snared the final podium slot in third with 20’07.091s.
This hard-won victory has narrowed the gap between the top two riders in the MSBK 250 title chase. Izam still leads with 108 points, while Danial is now only two points behind with 106.
Meanwhile Ahmad Farhan Iqwan topped the MSBK 250 B class with 21’40.267s. The MME Racing Team Malaysia rider enjoyed a relatively unchallenged lead, with second placed Mohd Fauzi Hassan 1.5 seconds behind. Daing Jamilus Herianto was third in the MSBK 250 B race.
