ZAQHWAN IN CHARGE

Boon Siew Honda Racing Team’s Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi has officially taken charge of the MSBK 1000 title chase. Zaqhwan has been on a winning streak while taking his brand new Honda CBR1000 RRR SP for its race debut at Round 2 of the 2021 Malaysia Superbike Championship this weekend.
Zaqhwan followed up on his Race 1 win with a second consecutive victory in Race 2. Starting from the front row, Zaqhwan took command almost immediately, with Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, Ramdan Rosli and Kasma Daniel in hot pursuit.
The four way battle lasted up to Lap 5 when the two BMWs of the ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team began to show signs of struggling with tyre wear.
As Azlan dropped out of the leading group, Kasma astride his Yamaha YZF-R1M was left to battle against the top speed of Zaqhwan’s Honda CBR1000 RRR SP. In his attempts to wrest the lead from Zaqhwan, Kasma set the fastest lap of the race on Lap 8 – a time of 2’07.880s.
But nothing doing. With a flick of his wrist, Zaqhwan was able to easily overtake Kasma on the back straight.
The Honda rider crossed the finish line in first place with 21’30.721s, and effectively takes over the title hunt in the MSBK 1000 class. Kasma Daniel settled for second with 21’31.313s while Azlan picked up 16 points in third with 21’37.225s.
Khoo Chee Yen once again held the advantage in the MSBK 1000 B when he completed the race with 22’58.108s. Teo Yew Joe was second in the MSBK 1000 B with 22’58.885s while Nik Hadi Nik Mahmood brought his Ducati Panigale V4R home in third.
